• Siddiq, MP for Hampstead and Highgate and former anti‑corruption minister, was convicted in Bangladesh and sentenced to four years in prison on corruption charges.
• The same court sentenced Siddiq’s aunt, former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, to 10 years in a corruption case involving the Purbachal New Town Project.
• Hasina was removed from office in 2024 following a student‑led uprising and has lived in exile in India since August 2024.
• The Red Notice was ordered by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Mohammed Sabbir Faiz.
• The order followed a request from the Bangladeshi Anti‑Corruption Commission’s Assistant Director, A.K.M. Mortuza Ali Sagar.
• Siddiq has stated she was not given details of the charges against her.
• UK Labour officials said senior legal professionals had concluded that Siddiq was not afforded a fair legal process.
• Siddiq continues to live in the UK and remains the MP for Hampstead and Highgate.
• UK legal figures including former justice secretary Robert Buckland and former attorney general Dominic Grieve have criticised the handling of the case.
• The corruption cases allege that Sheikh Hasina illegally obtained six plots in the Purbachal New Town Project for herself and relatives.
• Siddiq previously received a two‑year sentence in a similar case in Bangladesh.
• UK Cabinet minister Darren Jones stated Siddiq denies all wrongdoing and was not present for the trial in Bangladesh.
