One in six young people in the UK is currently unemployed.
The unemployment rate for 16–24 year olds is the highest in over a decade.
1.8 million people in the UK are currently out of work.
The number of unemployed people per job vacancy is at a post-pandemic high.
Christians Against Poverty released a report identifying barriers to employment.
Key barriers include:
Low confidence
Low self-esteem
Lack of skills
Lack of experience
Around nine million UK adults have been unsuccessful in ten or more job applications in the past year.
14% of surveyed adults believe they lack enough experience to secure a job.
10% believe they do not have the necessary skills for work.
A quarter of adults not currently employed say low confidence and self-esteem have made finding work harder in the past two years.
Some individuals remain trapped in low-paid, insecure jobs that do not cover living costs.
The charity is calling on the government and employers to do more to help people return to sustainable employment
