Rupert Lowe To Stand New Political Party

  • Rupert Lowe, former Reform UK MP, has launched a new political party called Restore Britain.

  • Lowe currently represents Great Yarmouth in Norfolk as an independent MP, after leaving Reform UK.

  • Lowe initially set up Restore Britain as a political movement after being suspended from Reform UK in March 2024.

  • The party is now expected to act as an umbrella political party with locally based political parties as partners.

  • Lowe was suspended from Reform UK following allegations of making threats of physical violence against party chairman Zia Yusuf.

  • The Crown Prosecution Service later decided there was insufficient evidence for a "realistic prospect of conviction" regarding the allegations.

  • Lowe, a businessman and former chairman of Southampton FC, is expected to stand for Great Yarmouth again with the local party Great Yarmouth First, which will partner with Restore Britain.

  • Susan Hall (Tory leader in the London Assembly) and Sir Gavin Williamson (former minister) had been involved in Restore Britain’s advisory board when it was a political movement.

  • Both Hall and Williamson are expected to leave Restore Britain’s advisory board now that it is transitioning into a political party.

  • Lowe is known for his independent stance and non-collaborative approach to politics, which contributed to his departure from Reform UK.

  • He believes there is a disconnect between mainstream politicians and the public, using his Great Yarmouth constituency as evidence.

  • Private polling suggests Lowe has significant support in Great Yarmouth, and he would perform well if an election were held.

  • Lowe hopes his new party, Restore Britain, will appeal to right-wing voters who value independence of thought.

  • Lowe had planned for Great Yarmouth First to run in local elections, but they were cancelled. The new party will now focus on gaining national support.
